When my son said that he was going to school overseas, I was nervous as most moms would be. He wanted to be so far from his father and I, and we had hoped he would be nearby so that we could make sure that he stayed safe. But he was resolute about his plans and off he went. He landed a job in his new surroundings soon after he graduated, and before I knew it, he told me he was using house movers in Singapore to move into a new home. Everything was moving quickly, but I as proud of him. He had done so well on his own!
My son was developmentally delayed when he was a little boy. His father and me fretted over what that would mean for him later in life. His doctors told us that we should do all that we can to help him get caught up with other kids his age. We worked so hard to do that, and after many years of hard work, he seemed to thrive like other kids did. I worried just a bit less about him struggling in life after that, but he has shown us that he has it in him to do really well. You would never know he went through those troubles as a little boy.
We are looking forward to the day that our son comes back home. We miss having him nearby so that we can visit when we want to. But he has come home a couple of times in the past few years, and he has even invited us to visit him. The trip was lovely and it was really nice getting to see him in his element. He has met a really nice girl there that he is engaged to. It has always been her dream to come to our country, and they surprised us and told us that they will be doing that permanently in just a few year’s time.
